Construction starts on 345 flats on Naritaweg in Amsterdam

September 13, 2022

On Thursday 8 September, the official go-ahead was given for the start of construction of 345 apartments on the site of the former FNV office on Naritaweg in Amsterdam. The project is part of the transformation of Sloterdijk-Centrum into a mixed living and working area. In addition to the apartments, the buildings will also house commercial spaces and a communal courtyard garden will be built on the roof of the underground garage.

Construction work on the former site of the FNV office officially started in early September. With the push of a button, the pile driving was set in motion. Construction company Wessels Rijssen - a VolkerWessels company - is responsible for building the entire project. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

Program

The apartment are spread across three buildings. Two of the three buildings will house a total of 173 social rental apartments and one commercial space. These will be let by housing association Eigen Haard. DW Property will let 172 free sector rental apartments and several commercial spaces in the other building.

The social rental homes are one- and two-room apartments and will be between 40 m² and 68 m² in size. The luxuriously finished free sector rental homes are two- and three-bedroom apartments and will be sized from 50 m² to 120 m². On the roof of the underground car park there will be a communal courtyard garden for all residents. All homes will be sustainably heated by a collective Heat and Cold Storage system.

KondorWessels Projecten - also a VolkerWessels company - and Flow Real Estate Development jointly developed this project on behalf of DW Property. Inbo Architects and Space Encounters are responsible for the design as architects.

New life on former industrial estate

In the coming years, Sloterdijk will transform into a lively urban district where people can live and work. Sloterdijk is developing into a sustainable and innovative area. This new complex on the site of the former FNV office building fits in perfectly. The area now has some 750 residents. Around 2025, some 3,000 homes will have been completed. A development welcomed by Sandra Doevendans, portfolio holder for building and housing for daily management district Nieuw-West. "With this, Amsterdam, and in this case Nieuw-West, is fulfilling the great need for housing. This is perfectly possible in Sloterdijk, with good facilities in the immediate vicinity. Together with the residents, businesses and social amenities, we will ensure strong communities in this area, because Sloterdijk also belongs to Nieuw-West. In the coming years, we will continue to build Nieuw-West, a district where it is good to live."
